The Wine: Château Peybonhomme is a longtime organic and biodynamic estate run by the Hubert family, known for making expressive Bordeaux with real freshness and texture. Le Blanc Bonhomme comes from estate fruit grown on clay-limestone soils in Blaye; it is fermented with native yeasts in a mix of concrete and barrel, then aged for about 6 months with lees stirring, which gives the wine its layered, quietly creamy feel without losing lift.
2023 Peybonhomme Le Blanc Bonhomme is a textured, mineral, slightly sun-kissed expression of Bordeaux Blanc, combining citrusy snap, ripe orchard fruit, and gentle waxy depth in a style that feels open, lively, and a little more generous than the category usually promises. It opens with aromas of lemon pith, pear, and white flowers, lifted by fresh herbs and a faint chalky note. On the palate, it is supple but mouthwatering, with ripe citrus, stone fruit, bright acidity, and a long finish that turns stony, savory, and lightly creamy.
Pairing: Savory herb crab toast, a shaved fennel salad with herbs, or a platter of oysters and good bread, preferably with a second bottle on hand.
